Gallatin County certainly felt the impact of COVID-19 in many ways and I wanted all concerned business owners out there to better understand how the MT Unemployment Division is doing their part to help those who have been forced out of work.

If you’re a small business owner, I know you really care about your employees and their overall well-being. I think the number is around 98% of businesses in MT are considered small business and most of the time, our employees are family. The Unemployment Insurance tax system isn’t as complicated as you would think.

In attending this webinar, you’ll better understand how this insurance tax may be affecting your business and a few workarounds for COVID-19 situations that have come to light. I want you to understand: 1) how to sign up and utilize the SIDES portal to answer any Unemployment claims for benefits from employees and how to keep them updated when needed. 2) Explain the “look-back” period of wages and how it’s calculated. 3) Go over job-attached status and how to get employees to return to work now, if you’re ready to re-open. 4) Lastly, we cover some options on what to do when an employee is refusing work and how to best handle those conversations.
